It all started about 4/5 months ago. A little surface (bright red) bleeding with my BMs. Let's take it back a little further. I had what I assumed were hemmeroids during my pregnancy with Lil Dominic. Could they have been simply hermmerhoids, or the indication of something much more sinister? We will never know. Anyway, the symptoms dissipated following his birth. Then about 4/5 months ago the symptoms were back. As time went on, the pain became more intense and the bleeding became a dark, almost clotty, symptom. Sadly, I assumed, naively, it was still just a hemmeroidal issue and figured it would disappear on its own. It didn't. So between the lapse in my insurance for 30 days and my inherent distrust of doctors being willing to help, I put it off. On January 13, I had an exam. 1 week later I was in surgery. They biopsied the growth in my rectum and it came back as cancer. Tests were/are scheduled. Colonoscopy today (see journal entry for specifics) and an mri and CT scan on Friday. Then we will know where we are. Chemo combined with radiation is up next to be followed by surgery to remove what is left. How much they will remove all depends. So I don't have many answers, but you now know what I do.
