On July 7th Haven was diagnosed with the rare, but aggressive brain tumor, DIPG. DIPG encapsulates the pons of your brain which controls speech, breathing, hearing, eye and facial movement, swallowing and oxygen intake, among other things. The biggest obstacle with this tumor is that it is non operable and since it is protected by the brain barrier chemotherapy can’t reach it. It therefore has a 0% survival rate. Children between the ages of 5-12 are where this type of cancer is found, but as few as just 300 cases affect families in North America each year. Depending on treatment and how swiftly her tumor grows will determine how much time our sweet angel has left with us. Thank you all for the kind words and reassurances that our family and network are both near and far. Please check here for updates and as always you can reach out to us personally. Please keep our baby in your prayers. We love you all. The VanSlyke’s
