Our family would like to keep you updated and informed on dads declining health. Please keep him in your thoughts and  prayers over the coming weeks and months.  Dad’s ailing liver started to show signs Fall 2021 when water retention and jaundice were apparent. He was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and has since progressed to full cirrhosis of the liver. The compromised liver has now negatively impacted his kidneys and his overall health. After several trips to the ER and hospital over the course of the past few months, he and our mom made the difficult decision to begin home hospice care. He was fortunate enough to be seen at The Mayo Clinic and the doctors in Rochester were helpful in helping them understand the lack of medical options available given his progression, weak system and declined overall health. Getting admitted twice/week for paracentesis and then admitted every two weeks for kidney help wasn’t a life or journey he wanted to continue especially given how weak he was feeling.
He is now home in Sauk Rapids and receives a daily visit from Hospice care. Mom is on duty the rest of the time and each day has proved to be different; some bad days, good days and really tough days. We will cherish the time we have until the toxicity of the liver assumes his life. Fortunately, his mind is still sharp (most of the time) and he enjoys the visits from family and friends. Pain meds will increase and that will impact his alertness and ability to engage. Appreciate the thoughts and prayers for his peace and also keep our mom in your prayers as she needs  strength  and endurance to continue to care for him at home.
