On  Oct 24, 2017 our little miracle Harvey James was born by emergency C-section to Kaela Vonk & Ryan Clarey. Kaela was suffering from a condition known as Hellp Syndrome preeclampsia.  Harvey is currently in NICU in Sanford. He weighs 1lb. 2oz. and is 11.75 inches long. Kaela was released from Sanford on Sunday, October 29. Kaela and Ryan are currently staying at a friend’s home close to Sanford and spend their days with Harvey James.

Harvey's Birth:
Kaela was brought to the emergency room in Rock Valley on Monday, October 23 at around 7:00 p.m. After doing a number of tests Kaela was transferred to Sanford due to elevated labs & blood pressure.
Kaela & Ryan arrived at Sanford around 11:30p.m. It was determined imminent to do a C-section. Kaela’s labs were at dangerous levels and her liver was shutting down. 
Harvey was born at 1:19 a.m. amidst a team of doctors, nurses and NICU specialists. Ryan was able to be with Harvey shortly after birth. 
Kaela was in recovery until 5:30 a.m. and then moved into ICU and placed on magnesium for 36 hours. Magnesium is used to prevent seizures in women who have preeclampsia. She was unable to see Harvey until she was off magnesium and bed rest.

First week in NICU:
I struggled with how to describe our first week in the NICU. We have so many emotions from fear of the unknown to the joy of his birth. Not only fear of having such a tiny baby but Kaela's health was in question also.  But no words can describe our love for this little guy. Harvey James has been so strong  and he is such an amazing little human being. He is perfect in every way from his tiny toes to his white blonde hair. We often joke we have a tiny blonde and we were thinking he was going to have black hair and be a big boy. The doctors told us he was doing better than average for a NICU baby. They also warned us of what's called the honeymoon period and there would be lots of ups and downs. Kaela is getting stronger day by day. She is on blood pressure meds and her symptoms seem to be lessening everyday. 
Harvey's little personality is coming out more and more every day. Our days are filled with Harvey getting his daily labs, X-rays, and a multitude of other things. The nurses and doctors in the NICU are by far the best.  Harvey has his own room and each baby has their own nurse. He is in the best place possible.
