Hans's long-awaited hip surgery is scheduled for June 4, 2019 at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul.
Hans's hips are 80% dislocated. Dislocated hips are very common for people with cerebral palsy. Leg bones actually grind their way into our hip sockets when we walk and stand. Since Hans doesn't bear weight, his legs bones wander outside of his hips, which may cause him pain now and surely would later in life. The surgeons hope to realign Hans's hip and leg joints.
The surgery will take all day and Hans will be inpatient for about a week. We are going to use this CaringBridge site during Hans's surgery and hospital stay to communicate updates with loved ones. A quick tour of what you can find on this site as of June 3: - Journal entry outlining the surgical procedures Hans is having done, if you wanna know. - Click on the "Ways to Help" icon for driving and parking directions to the hospital, and a registration link to Gillette's annual Run, Walk & Roll 5k happening June 8 at Como Park. If you feel the impulse to help Hans but don't know how, this would be a great way to support Hans, his team of amazing providers and other Gillette families.
