Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on Hal's journey.   As many you know, Hal's health issues have  been more challenging in the past year or so.  In late April of 2019 he had a hemorrhagic stroke and spent several months in rehab before he was strong enough to come home.  He was fortunate to regain his mobility and return home with little more than some short-term memory loss and occasional word recall issues.   He was well enough to enjoy life for about 6 months before 2 falls and an ischemic stroke slowed him down and  resulted  in 2 hospital stays.  Again, he returned home with his mobility in tact, although he was weaker and walked more slowly with his walker.

During late March and early April, Hal became progressively weaker and stayed in bed for longer periods during the day.  By the end of April, it was necessary to have 24-hour in-home care.   Shortly after the in-home care began, tests showed that Hal was in acute renal failure, and we gradually transitioned to in-home hospice care.  We are very fortunate to have the long-distance support of Hal's son, Jeff, and his fiancé, Anne, our grandson, Austin, and many friends, relatives, and former colleagues.  Here in Tucson the Lavery family is a valued source of constant support and help as we make this journey.

Ideally, we would like to communicate with each of you individually but are finding it difficult to accomplish.  It is our hope that this website will be an acceptable alternative for you to get updates on Hal's wellbeing and to offer words of encouragement and support.   Thank you for visiting.
