Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Gwen had a serious health scare in 2015, and was diagnosed with Myeloproliferative disorder, among other things. This is a chronic disease of the blood and bone marrow. She has seemed to manage pretty well since 2015, and has been receiving treatments for low blood counts, especially platelets which are needed to clot blood.
Beginning in March of this year, Gwen’s health has faced a series of challenges with recurrent infections, fatigue, shortness of breath, and low blood counts that have not responded well to treatments.
She was admitted to Mercy Ascension hospital in Oshkosh on August 16 with severe fatigue, low blood counts and shortness of breath. She stayed in ICU at Mercy, and the doctors seemed unable to get her to respond to treatment.
She was transferred to the UW hospital in Madison on August 30, where she remains, for evaluation and treatment. Gwen’s platelets have been as low as 1, and normal is between 150,000 and 400,000. She Remains very ill.
