Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to get to know more about our precious little boy!We decided to start this site in order to keep all of our friends and family informed as our son, Greyson, learns to navigate this big, wonderful world. As with any premature baby, there can be medical updates multiple times a day, some seeming to be more positive than others. We want this to be a place of authenticity and hope! Please follow along on this journey with us so you can catch a more full glimpse of what it is like to have a piece of your heart living in a NICU.
#GreysonEverett brought immense joy into this world when he was born twelve weeks early on July 2, 2016 at 11:30am. He measured 13.5 inches long and weighed in at 1 pound 13 ounces.
48 hours earlier, Jessica had been diagnosed with 'Severe Atypical Preeclampsia,' a complication affecting less than 1% of all pregnancies.
It simply means that:
•the placenta was rejected relatively early in the pregnancy (it usually happens weeks 34+)
•it was severely affecting Greyson (he wasn't being nourished because of the failing placenta) and Jessica (her liver and kidneys were struggling, and she was at immediate risk for seizures and other complications)
•and it appeared all at once without prior symptoms.
This specific diagnosis, if left untreated, can quickly lead to death for mom and baby. Even with regular prenatal care and uneventful checkups, Jessica's pregnancy silently went from easy to critical in a matter of days. Luckily, Chris got Jess to the ER in time to save both Mom and Greyson (who had as low as a 20% chance of survival).
Grey came out kicking his long legs and using his little lungs to let us know he had arrived! Of course, we were deeply relieved to hear his little cries. And that is where this journey begins for our little family!
