The night of Tuesday April 26th, after a normal day, Greg started experiencing sudden chest pain.  In his quick thinking he knew to have us immediately call 911.  Upon the arrival of the EMTs and doing an EKG, they knew they needed to get him to the hospital for what they thought was a heart attack.  The team at the hospital found that it was not a heart attack but rather both his ascending & descending aorta had dissected in multiple places and he would need immediate emergency surgery.  Much more serious than we could have ever imagined.  Kim and Kristen were able to be with him while we waited for the OR to be ready.

His surgery lasted all night, around 11 hours.  They had to replace a section of the aorta and replace his valve and repair the ascending and descending aorta as well as a triple bypass.  The dissection was severe and affected vessels to different parts of the body so there was a lot of work to be done.  After surgery, he remained sedated for about 24 hours to his allow his body a break.  The early early morning of Thursday April 28th, he went in for his second surgery to perform more repairs that the surgeons needed to do to fix more of the dissections.  He is still sedated for the time being as the hospital team helps to try to get his body to stabilize and regulate.

Everything is hour by hour, minute by minute.  We are all so grateful for the amount of support our family is getting already but we decided to make this CaringBridge site because it has been overwhelming and too hard to update everyone individually.  We will try to update daily or as often as we can.

CaringBridge is a nonprofit social network dedicated to helping family and friends communicate with and support loved ones during a health journey. Learn more about CaringBridge.
