Grant Gilyard

Amber went in for her routine 28 week appointment. She was thrilled to pass her glucose test with flying colors and to hear her healthy baby boy's heart beat. Her blood pressure was higher than they'd like, so they asked her to walk to the hospital, which was across the parking lot, to complete a stress test. Troy was driving home from work and decided to stop in for the test. When Amber got checked in, her blood pressure was in the 200s, which is extremely dangerous. They were able to lower this through IV medications, but they could tell that baby was under stress and was not recovering as he should be. The decision was made to perform an emergency C-section and have baby transported to Children's. The entire process was extremely scary and unexpected, but we continue to thank God and our guardian angels for having this occur on a day that Amber had an appointment. Grant David Gilyard was born at 8:59pm and weighed 1lb 15oz. He was transported to Children's Hospital where he will receive the very best care. Amber remained in Waconia's hospital until Tuesday, December 19 where she recovered fully. Troy and Amber are now able to be together with Grant at the hospital and care for his needs.
