Irene Sasine Grandma's Journey

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated during Grandma'srecovery. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time.  Feel free to leave a message, story, or just words of support and love in the guestbook.

Thursday, January 21, 2016 began like any other day.  Grandma (Renee) and Grandpa (Stanley)  were getting dressed to begin their day.  From what I understand, Grandpa left the bedroom for a brief moment and returned to find Grandma slumped over.   After a 911 call and an ambulance ride to Piedmont Hospital, Grandma was diagnosed with a Left Posterior Cerebral Artery Stroke affecting her Temporal and Occipital lobes.  Essentially, the stroke affected her right side movements and her language center.  Grandma spent 2 days in ICU and moved to a room for about 9 days.  She has progressed with her speaking and is able to move her right side minimally.

Grandma continues to improve daily.  She is now in a rehab facility where she is working very hard at her occupational and speech therapy.  Every day we see more and more of our Grandma's personality return.  She is as opinionated as always.  Please stay in touch on this site and we continue on with Grandma's Journey to recovery.
