Grandma Belle had an ischemic stroke one week ago September 9, 2016. Fortunately, Sandy checks on her every morning and when she didn’t answer she went right out. Upon finding her, Sandy called Tom and the ambulance. Grandma was able to sit on the bed and walk out of the bedroom to the gurney. The stroke was to the left side of the brain so her right side is very weak. She has her ups and downs and tires very easily. This tiredness has been happening the last 4 weeks she had a sciatica nerve pain in her hip. She had not been sleeping in her bed and was in her chair all the time. Three days before her stroke she received a pain block which was working allowing her to be back sleeping in her bed.
Yesterday a feeding tube was placed in her nose and small amounts of food started. She is currently at 50 mg per hour which was the goal, and hopefully this will bring her strength back. She has passed a swallow test and will also be given liquid food as the tongue and chewing needs more therapy. We hope this improves and she will again be able to speak. She has no trouble communicating by nodding Yes and No.
Thanks to all for visiting with Grandma and all the cards and prayers.
