Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. There is SOOOOO much love out there for Althea and the family, and it's hard to take it all in at one time! In order to spread the love more productively, we have also created a "task" list that you can VOLUNTEER your time with. Click on the "Ways to Help" button on this page and take a look at the "Planner" to see service opportunities like: visiting Robin, sitting with Althea, lawn care, pool care, home help, and even sitting with Boone. You can also click on "Thoughts and Well Wishes" to send a note of encouragement and prayers. Thanks so much for your support! We love you, too.

On Monday afternoon, September 11, 2017, Althea experienced a significant heart episode called an aortic dissection. This is a serious condition in which the inner layer of the aorta, the large blood vessel branching off the heart, tears. Blood surges through the tear, causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to separate (dissect). As the Lord would have it, this happened while Althea was at Spalding Regional Hospital tending to a friend's needs. They were able to get effective medical help quickly and successfully. We continue to praise God for this! From the ER at Spalding, Althea was transported to Emory by ambulance. Normally this would have been a life-flight, but due to the high winds brought in by the tropical storm that day, ground transport was necessary. She is currently recovering from aortic resection in the ICU at Emory University Hospital.

Update: On Wednesday, September 27th, Althea moved from Emory to Brightmoor in Griffin for Rehabilitation. She has improved tremendously during her physical therapy. Her organs are working miraculously well, and we give God all the glory for her continued healing.

Update: On Tuesday, October 17th, Althea was welcomed back home! She is still very popular with the home health nurses and physical therapy folks, but she has blown the statistics away. This lady is way ahead of recovery schedule and is a walking miracle. Praise GOD!
