Gina Travis Gina's Health Journey

First post: 9/2/2017 Latest post: 10/23/2017
Hi, my name is Nikki Beckman and I am writing this on behalf of my dear friend Gina. As most of you who are reading this know, Gina has been dealing with medical issues most of her life. She continues to teach first grade which she is extremely  passionate about and raise her 16 year old son Joseph, the light of her life. As some of you might know, she has a prosthetic hip of 23 years on her left side. She was diagnosed a year and a half ago with severe Osteoporosis. She has traveled from doctor to doctor and city to city to try to find help. She has undergone 13 surgeries and rounds of therapy, tests and injections. Years of pain and walking poorly have unfortunately taken a  toll on her body. Her ability to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time have increasingly become worse over the last year. She recently found out that she has a Labral hip tear and cyst on her ‘good’ hip. She was advised to not use her cane anymore and use her walker as to not put any undo pressure on that hip. She has found a new practice of orthopedic surgeons that she feels comfortable with.  They called her a ‘complicated case’ and they need to take things one small step at a time. Today she met with them and they gave her an injection into her ‘good’ hip to see if any pain would subside to let them know if the right hip pain is coming from the SI Joint or the tear in the Labrum.  She is home resting comfortably now. She will be seeing a different orthopedic surgeon at the end of next week who specializes in SI joint dysfunction. She will also be getting a 3 body part bone scan on the left side in a week to check for infection, joint loosening or dysfunction in the prosthetic as the life of the implant is coming to its end.

I am starting this site as a place to keep her friends and family updated on her continued journey to health.  Gina appreciates the years of continued support, prayers and love for her. It keeps her going.

I will be posting weekly updates on her progress. In addition, here is a link to a Go Fund Me account that has been set up to help Gina with medical bills, other monthly bills, and living expenses while she is recovering. All prayers and donations of any amount are so appreciated.
