On Sunday, May 26, 2019 Gina was having a hard time breathing. We determined the best plan was to take her to the hospital to see if the COPD she had been diagnosed with in April needed a different form of treatment. She was admitted to the Franciscan Healthcare Munster Hospital where it was discovered that there was significant amount of fluid around her left lung and a mass on her pancreas.
On Tuesday, May 28th they performed a thoracentesis procedure to remove the fluid from around the lung and a biopsy of the mass on her pancreas. We received the results back on Thursday, May 2 that the mass on the pancreas was benign but the fluid surround the left lung is cancerous.
As a result of the cancer being in the fluid surround the lung, she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
