Gianna Paniagua

Welcome to Gianna's CaringBridge website where both Gianna & Lourdes will updating regularly. Si Dios quiere, Gianna will be celebrating her 25 year transplant anniversary in October! Since receiving her new heart in 1992 (due to her diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy),  she has been thriving. 
Gianna is currently  living in San Francisco while working on her MFA. She is being followed by the Kaiser Permanente transplant team in Santa Clara. 2016 was a year filled with health challenges and this is yet another step in getting Gianna back to peak health condition. If you're visiting this site, you know she's going to be receiving treatment for antibody mediated rejection (ABMR) for the first time which involves being admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks. The treatment plan includes plasma pheresis, iv infusions and prednisone therapies. This treatment is common for this type of rejection and the success rate is high.   Gianna loves hearing from her friends & family and appreciates your words of encouragement, and your support & prayers for healing and recovery.
