As most of you know, Gerry has been sick since January. In that time, we visited many specialists in Atlanta and did not receive a diagnosis. We came to Scottsdale on Thursday, July 1 to visit Gerry’s father. On Friday, July 2, we decided to check Gerry into the ED at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale as his condition was worsening. At Mayo, he was diagnosed with endocarditis in his aortic and mitral valves. Unfortunately, because he has had this infection for so long, emboli broke off and spread to his bloodstream, brain and cervical vertebrae.
Gerry was in the ICU for 2 days and has now been moved to a step down unit as he has stabilized. Once the infection is under control, they will perform open heart surgery to replace his sick heart valves. Once we know the date of the surgery or have further information, we will update this page. We appreciate everyone’s love and concern and look forward to talking to all of you when we have the chance.
