George first came to Mayo in Rochester, MN  to have prostate removal surgery for cancer in April of 2008. We believed at that time the cancer was gone never to return. So we were done with the issue! Or so we thought. Several months ago George had his biannual PSA and it was slightly elevated so a return check was scheduled. The return check also showed a slight increase from the earlier test. Again another follow-up test was scheduled and a pattern was developing that concerned him enough that he scheduled a check-up at Mayo in Arizona as we were scheduled to visit there in late February. Again the PSA showed another elevation and MRI and Cat scan tests were recommended when we returned to Georgia.

April, 23, 2013: After undergoing successful removal of his prostate in 2008, he passed out in the motel two days post-op and in determining why, the doctors found a tumor in his right kidney (no connection to the prostate cancer) which eventually was found to be cancerous and was successfully removed without taking the entire kidney. He fully recovered from that and has remained active and in good health for the past 5 years.  The testing he will undergo here in Rochester this week  will hopefully tell us where the prostate cells have been hiding since surgery in '08 and what protocol will best serve his need. We should then be able to return to Georgia and whatever treatment they advise will be able to be done closer to home. We'll try to keep you updated as we know more. We will continue to covet your prayers for us as we travel this new journey. Blessings to all concerned friends, family & church family.
