On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, Geoffrey was admitted to the emergency room at St. Luke’s Hospital in the Medical Center with symptoms of liver failure. By the next evening, he was in the ICU, intubated and hooked up to a respirator and sedated, his blood pressure dangerously low due to esophageal bleeding that could not be located, much less stopped. We almost lost him that night. Gradually he became stabilized, but he remained in an induced coma and on a respirator for ten days. Since then, he’s improved but has also suffered setbacks, and his doctors agree that he needs a liver transplant.
Geoffrey’s father, mother, sister, and daughters have been so humbled and encouraged by the outpouring of love and offers of help from his friends, co-workers, clients, and most of all, his extended family. He had 29 visitors to the ICU the first 10 days he was there! Kate has been very busy updating all of you on Geoffrey’s progress, individually and by Facebook Messenger, but we thought this website would be a much more efficient way to share our news, hopes, fears, and love. We will update you whenever we can, and we welcome your comments and questions. Hopefully, Geoffrey can soon add his own thoughts and comments, which are always unique, as you know!
