While planning my next "trip of a lifetime" to the Yunnan Province in China followed by a visit to Cambodia and Thailand, I had a major detour - BREAST CANCER. Who would have thunk it!! Instead of finalizing my trip plans, I am now looking at clearing my calendar and trying to anticipate what the next year is going to be like. Here is what I know - I will be having a double mastectomy on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at St. Mary's Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee - only a ten minute drive from my condo. I'll come home the next day and have 3-4 weeks to recover. I will then start chemo once a week for 12 weeks and then once every 3 weeks for 40 more weeks. The decision about radiation will not be made until after the surgery. I do not want to give this disease any more power than it already has so I am trying to be realistic (which is sometimes difficult because I know everyone's journey is different) AND maintain a positive spirit. So join me on my on this journey if you dare :o)!! I'll regularly update my journal, LOVE hearing from others and especially appreciate any humor that can be interjected as I negotiate the road back to health.
