Thank you for visiting. 12-2-16 (https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gaylordmalecha/journal/view/id/5841f3fbf020654518ef3297) Journal entry by Juanita Malecha — 24 minutes ago

Gaylord has been diagnosed with CMML, a rare type of leukemia.  He was diagnosed about two months ago.  One month ago we went to Dallas to investigate the possibility of a stem cell transplant.  Siblings are currently being tested to see if they are a match.  If none are, the doctors have a national database in which we hope to find a donor.  Gaylord has had a port put in and is being given chemo 5 days in a row, then after 3 weeks doing 5 more days, then repeating this cycle until a match is found and a stem cell transplant can be scheduled in Dallas. Now that we have accepted this much we have to start dealing with the day to day issues such as today, itching driving him crazy.   He broke the skin open around the port and it started bleeding and would not stop because he has Von Wildebrands (a bleeding disorder), so he had to go have intravenous meds to make his blood clot.   It certainly has its ups (?) and downs, so please keep us in your prayers!  God bless you all for CARING!
