On Saturday, December 18th, Gayla was feeling short of breathe and taken to the Austin emergency room via ambulance. When Gayla arrived her O2 sats were in the 60s (normal O2 sat is 90-100). Her Covid test was positive. Gayla was provided oxygen to improve her oxygen levels. The medical team diagnosed Gayla with Covid pneumonia. Given her high oxygen needs the medical team quickly found a bed in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
