Hello Family and Friends - I am  using Caring Bridge to communicate with you on updates regarding Gary.  Caring Bridge is a completely free site and I am using it for communication purposes only, not fundraising.  This is a place to help  keep family and friends updated and for you to share your thoughts if you wish.   Thank you for your support, thoughts and prayers.  Please know they are truly  appreciated and warm my heart.   I am so blessed to have all of you sharing in the healing process.

Gary is a fighter. You all know him and can vouch for his strength and fighting spirit. We know he can continue to conquer this challenge. We are so reassured and confident in the care he is receiving from the team of doctors, nurses and specialists at MGH.  An anticipated 2 day stay in January  is now approaching 7 weeks of hospitalization and we have been told he will continue to remain at MGH for an indefinite period of time. He will then require months of rehab. 

 *Last week, a tracheostomy tube was placed (a temporary tube to assist with breathing), after being intubated for several weeks.

*He is still relying on the ventilator for lung support.

*He has not been receiving any sedation drugs for about a week.

*He is on temporary dialysis to help flush out the toxins from his body. The hope is this will increase his alertness and mental status.

*I am in Boston (will be here through the snowstorm) and stay with Mary (sister) or at Elena's.  I  go back and forth to CT and work a few days a week, if possible.

I am currently at Mary's and she is much better at the computer than I am so she set up the site for me.  Also, I do need to give her credit for the Caring Bridge idea as a way to communicate versus my slow intermittent messaging.  This has been a long journey for all of us.
