Baby Gabriel was born 5 weeks early, on March 12, 2018. After delivery, doctors discovered a narrowing of the aortic arch in Gabriel's heart, as well as a hole in his AV canal. He was taken to Children's hospital, on March 13th, where he had his first open heart surgery on March 21. After spending nearly months in the NICU, Gabriel finally went home on July 2.
Doctors have know all along that a second surgery would be necessary to close the hole in the AV canal, but recent scans have shown that the pulmonary artery also needs to be repaired. On Tuesday November 13, 2018, Gabriel will undergo his second surgery. Together with Loralee and Eduardo, Aunty Amber will be posting updates on the surgery and recovery process here on the Caring Bridge site.
