On Monday, July 8th, 2019, after experiencing a few weeks of growing headaches, followed by an acute cognitive event, Eric and Christine sought medical care at Sonora Regional Medical Center. After a quick CT scan of the brain, Eric was transferred to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA to their specialized neurological unit for follow up. A detailed MRI on Tuesday identified a walnut sized mass in Eric's left Parietal Lobe (upper left side of his head). It was located on the side of his brain (not deep within) just under the skull. Eric underwent surgery on Friday, 7/12/19, and the tumor was removed except for some residual remnants left to minimize interruption of brain tissue. The surgeon identified the tumor as a primary Glioblastoma, meaning it is the "primary" tumor, not a secondary tumor from another location.
Due to the nature of the Glioblastoma, Eric will undergo follow-up treatment at a different medical center to be determined for focused Radiation treatments and possibly other treatments. We are awaiting the lab work to complete their study of the biopsied tissue to determine the next course of action. Eric and the entire family remain in positive spirits and Eric is recovering extremely well from his surgery. Eric is alert and very oriented, laughing and joking with the medical staff and friends. At times, he has everyone in "stitches"! He has already 'graduated' from ICU (after only one day) and has been transferred back to a standard room.
