Fred McGill

On March 10, 2021, Fred had Kidney stents removed and replaced with AAA repair with revision of old graft.  He went to CVICU right away and  he has been in  CVICU with multiple surgeries and multiple complications.  His kidneys have not woken up yet but has been on dialysis to protect them.  He has been on and off the Ventilator to help him heal.  Some days they lessen the sedation so that he can respond to commands and shake his head yes and no.  He shakes his head that he is fighting and wants to come home.  He has asked to get the car and take him home when he hasn't been on the ventilator.  As we all know Fred is a fighter and he is fighting the fight.  Only one person a day can see him for one hour.  All three kids have gotten the chance to talk to him on the phone.  He tries very hard to talk but has been very weak.  We could understand him on the phone while talking to him.  


Saturday March 20, 2021 Fred was put back on the ventilator due to a collapsed lung with pneumonia.  He was fighting an infection with his blood counts going up.  They wanted his lungs to rest and get better.  He does have a feeding tube for nutrition.  His blood pressure has been stable but he did go into A-Fib so now Cardiology is on the case also.   They also changed from him getting daily dialysis for a few hours to it being continuous dialysis to help the kidneys out.  


Monday, March 22, 2021 Fred started with thickness in his left lower lung that they decided needed to be removed to help him breathe ,speed up healing and clear infection.  It got to late to be able to have the surgery on Monday and he was rescheduled to Tuesday. 


Tuesday, March 23, 2021 Fred had surgery on the lung and had a lot of fluid around it pulled off and two chest tubes put in place to pull all the fluid off and keep it off.  Infectious Disease Dr. is treating the infection.


Wednesday, March 24, 2021 Dr. Lee's plan of action is to have him off the ventilator by the weekend and that we should be seeing some good turn of events coming soon.  That his infection will be down and healing has already taken place.  He is having some gallbladder issue that they plan on taking care of and make him stronger.  Keep all of us in your prayers and a full healing and speedy recovery for Fred.
