Our dad (Fred Leystra) found out a few weeks ago that he has a cancerous spot on his lung and things have moved quickly from there.  A biopsy was done the following week to determine the type of cancer and then last week we learned it is an aggressive small cell that will be treated quickly and aggressively over the next four months.  He received his first infused dose of chemo on Thursday, July 21st followed by two days of chemo pills.  He is receiving care at the VA from UW Carbone Center physicians. Dad is ready to fight this with all he has and is in good spirits. His primary side effect so far is bouts of severe dizziness.  We will use this site to provide regular updates as things move forward.
