Thank you for visiting Fred's site and wanting to learn more about Fred's journey with MDS.

Fred was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia Syndrome (MDS) in 2015. Late in 2017, his disease began to progress and we decided to go to  MD Anderson for a second evaluation and advice on treatment options.

In November 2017, we were able to meet with an MDS specialist doctor at MD Anderson. He suggested that Fred start chemo treatments immediately, which was a blessing! Currently, Dad is overwhelmed by these recent developments and, as a result of his condition and treatments, he is constantly tired and lacks energy. Some days he feels great and some days he is really wiped out. Please pray that Fred will have extra energy and strength to be able to do the activities that he enjoys so much.

Since dad has started chemo treatments, he has had to make many day trips through out the week to MD Anderson. He goes ever Tuesday and Friday  for blood work. Once the nurse reviews his blood work....he then may have to have a blood or platelet transfusions. Then he has to meet with other doctors too some times during the week to check his heart and other organs.  All of this process is long and tiring. This has been a tough adjustment to dad's usual daily activities and community involvement. The doctor has informed us that this will be a long journey and there are a lot of unknowns along the way.  Please pray that the doctors, nurses will have wisdom to make sure dad is getting all of the right treatments. Pray that he has no reactions to the chemo and the medication will help him to function in a way he can continue to do his daily activities.

This site will help to keep you informed on Fred's progress, needs, prayer requests, etc. . You can send messages, post pictures and sign up to help out. Most importantly Fred needs your prayers! So there are many ways to help.

If you are interested in helping with a meal or transportation to MD Anderson, please go to the  "PLANNER" section to look at what days Fred has needs (like: weekly meals, rides to MD Anderson for doctor's appointments, fellowship and errands).

Please continue to pray for Fred. That the Lord will heal his body and he will be cured.

We are very blessed and thankful with his care he is getting at MD Anderson and are so encouraged with the doctor's recommended treatment. We also appreciate all the love and  support ,words of hope and encouragement,  prayers, calls, etc. that we have received from family and friends. Your support has been wonderful!  Thank you for caring about Fred and for your willingness to learn more.  We are grateful for you!

Blessings,

Alicia & Carlos Avila, Fred Boone Jr., Andrea & Bert Chapman, and Brittany & Austin McDowell
