Ezra Chytka Ezra’s NICU journey

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Ezra Pascal Chytka was born on July 15th, 2022 at 2:06PM (6.2lbs, 48cm) after 36 weeks of gestation.
Ezra could not wait a minute longer to see the world. All of God’s grace in one sweet little face. We are so honored to be parents and to experience this level of overwhelming love for a human being.

With this reward came an important challenge. Despite an uncomplicated labor, Ezra quickly collapsed after delivery and had to be resuscitated after being oxygen-deprived for 10 seconds. He was immediately transferred to St. Joseph’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit here in Florida where he is now under full oxygen support via an incubator. His lungs have been determined to be more premature than those of 36-week babies and he is fighting pulmonary hypertension, along with his inability to product surfactant (a lubricant naturally present in the lungs to facilitate gas exchanges with the heart).

The length of his stay in the NICU is undetermined at the moment, and we are taking every day as a new chance for him to recover. He is a fighter and has already shown us his strong will to live and overcome this hurdle. Time and patience are the essence before we can finally take our sunshine home with us.

I cannot express how hard and humbling this experience has been for us as parents. In this difficult time, we thank you for all the prayers spoken and the well-wishes for a full recovery of our beautiful baby…

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
