On September 2nd Evelyn suffered a stroke.  The stroke was moderate in severity, and affected a part of the brain that controls vision.  The damage to her vision was relatively mild. Her peripheral vision on one side is impaired, but it should not effect her ability to function significantly. There was no other physical damage.

The main problems she is dealing with is delirium and confusion brought on by the stroke, along with her preexisting dementia . For a couple of weeks prior to the stroke we noticed increases in her dementia. It is likely that she suffered one or more mini strokes at this time.  The doctors are hopeful that the delirium will subside over time, but at her age  (yesterday was her 90th birthday) nothing is certain. We are most concerned that the stroke caused further progression to the dementia. What her mental condition will be in the next weeks and months is uncertain.

Today, Sept 10, we are planning on moving her from the hospital into a long term care facility for therapy and rehabilitation. For now, this a temporary arrangement. The facility is Colonial Acres in Golden Valley.  We do not know at this time where she will end up living once the rehab is completed. I will keep this site updated. I will post when she is ready for phone calls.  Thanks for your concern.
