After experiencing an injury from a car accident in May 2015 Eve tried many different treatments. She was experiencing pain in her neck, right arm, numbness in her right hand and her left hand going cold. She ended up needing to have Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion at C5-C6 on March 30th. The plan was that she would only need to stay overnight in the hospital for a night. However, there have been complications. During the surgery an instrument was placed in to the disc. The surgeon accidentally bruised her spinal cord when the instrument slipped. She was on monitors for nerve sensation for the entire surgery. When the spinal cord was damaged there was no activity from her shoulders down. Her spinal cord was bruised and has blood spots. She is experiencing unexpected paralysis from the neck down and is facing months of recovery and rehabilitation. She has been able to move her right foot and slightly wiggle her toes on the left side. There has been improvement in strength on her right side. She will begin her rehabilitation at Denver Health and may eventually be moved to Craig Rehabilitation Hospital.
