In December of 2012 a lump was discovered in my right breast which was later autopsied and diagnosed to be cancer. It was as if a personal death sentence had been handed to me. I had lost my mother the previous year in June. I was turning 50 that said year in August. News of her death came while I was at an International Reading Conference (funded by the school board) in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. It was a Sunday, the first day of the conference which was expected to last for 4-5 days. The news of her death was devastating. In hindsight, I say thank God for the co- workers who were there with me and gave me as much support as they could possibly have given.
My trip to the Bahamas started as an answer to prayer. I wanted to find a way to help my elderly parents pay off a mortgage that they had acquired late in life trying to make our family comfortable in a bigger house. I prayed about it and a co- worker showed me an adversitement in the daily newspaper for vacancies of teaching position in the country in which I now reside.
