On December 9th, Dad and Beverly were doing some work with the tractor, trying to connect a scraper to the back when he lost his footing and fell. He broke his arm and we had to call 911 to transport him to Peidmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. Dr Flint did surgery on the 10th and placed 2 screws and 2 pins in the Humerus bone on his left arm. Dad was in great pain and regulating the pain medicine was difficult because of his many allergies. During the night on the 12th he was very sick with nausea, vomiting, low grade fever and an allergic reaction to some medicine given following surgery. After several tests the morning of the 13th, it was determined that he had experienced a massive heart attack. He has gotten more lethargic, short of breath and has days and nights mixed up. After being presented with a few options in planning of his care, he chose to be placed in comfort care, remaining at Piedmont Mountainside. Yesterday was a banner day for him as he was shown so much love and kindness from visits, calls, texts and video chats with much of his family and many lifetime friends. Today, 12/14 we inquired about taking him home in hospice care so the family can surround him as he leaves this earthly body and enters heaven. We will make a decision concerning that tomorrow. We know several others wanted an opportunity to see and speak with him one more time and we thought Caringbridge would be the best way to offer that possibility. We will try to update about his condition around 10 am and 6 pm daily. We are so grateful for our loving family members and so many friends that have loved and supported our daddy. We will take every opportunity to read to him your kind words so that he knows what an impact he has made on so many. Please know if he could he would respond to each and every message as words are his love language. Thank you in advance for how well we know you will love on us all.
