Starting a CaringBridge site is something people don't want to  do, right?   Here I am though on a Friday night, doing that very thing.    With her permission, we decided to use this tool to share updates about the lady that Mark and I are fortunate to call Mom.  Also, we hope that others will use it to send messages of hope and encouragement to Mom and also to Glen.
.
Many of you know that Mom has had a difficult 12 months.  It began last January with a burst vertebrae, resulting in major spinal surgery and followed by months of recovery efforts.     Most recently, just over two weeks, the same surgeon removed a portion of the two rods that had previously been placed to provide stability to her spine.     I am significantly paraphrasing all that occurred relative to her spinal issues, only to provide a frame of reference for what she has been through.

Concurrent to her spinal issues, Mom has also been having stomach issues including nausea and significant weight loss, to name just a few symptoms.  Symptoms significantly worsened and she was admitted to Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood on January 23.   Since then, she has endured multiple tests and procedures and we received the sad news this week that she has gastric cancer.     A PET scan is scheduled for Tuesday, which should identify if the cancer has spread to other areas of her body.    The outcome of the scan will determine next steps.

We are asking for prayers for both Mom and Glen.    Specifically for comfort, strength, and peace.    I will update this site periodically as there is more to share.    In the meantime, tell your mom (or dad, or children) that you love them.
