My mom, Erlinda, fell and got a good bump on her head, John and she went to the hospital. Seemingly (after many CT scans, etc.) the bump didn't actually cause her much damage. However, while in the hospital my mom apparently developed an infection or infections which they tried to resolve. Her condition since admission declined precipitously, including her wakefulness and seeming mental capacities. She was transferred to UCSF Medical Center Parnassus, and after several weeks of little or no progress, even though some of the main infection seemed to have been fought off, her internal systems started declining badly. It was decided to initiate palliative care, which essentially meant we would let her die peacefully rather than her failing body painfully doing the job. Erlinda died around 1:50 PM Friday, 10/27. Her funeral occurred on Tuesday 11/21 at Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, CA at 10 a.m. with a meal to follow at Harry's Hofbrau in San Jose. There was also a beautiful musical memorial in December.
