Dear Family and Friends,

We are so very fortunate to have Erin with us today.  We cannot express how much the support of family and friends has meant and continues to mean to us.

Our daughter, Erin, had a serious bike accident this past Thursday morning in Sun Valley, Idaho, where our family had gathered for the wedding of our niece.  Erin suffered a traumatic brain injury and was airlifted to the trauma center in Boise. She had an emergency craniectomy on Friday afternoon.  The neurosurgeon removed a bone flap over her left temporal lobe where the injury was most acute to give her brain room to swell.  The part of her brain that has been injured is the left temporal lobe that controls language.  Erin came out of surgery well and is making good progress.  Her body is practically untouched other than a major road rash so the fact that she broke no bones or has other internal injuries is extremely important.  Obviously, it’s still very early in this journey.

David and I are well aware that this is a marathon, not a sprint.  We feel very blessed to be seeing forward progress, to be getting excellent care here at the St. Alphonsus Regional Medical center, and to know that Erin means so much to so many.  All of your words of love and support mean so much to us.  We look forward to sharing them with Erin very soon!

Love, Barbara & David
