Erin was admitted to the hospital the day after Christmas 2020 and diagnosed with pneumonia. Further evaluation of her lungs revealed a tumor which was later determined to be squamous cell carcinoma. Fast forward to February 5, 2021 and fluid was discovered around her heart, which was making breathing more difficult. At this point, radiation and chemo had been scheduled, but had not yet started. However, the fluid posed a complication and needed to be taken care of before treatment could begin. That weekend brought about more complications with even more trouble breathing, bringing Erin back to the ER. It was then determined that the fluid had spread to also be on her lungs and may be cancerous.
