Updated:  On January 20, 2018, Emilia was on an annual ski vacation with friends and family.  She was skiing with a few of her friends and their parents at Lutsen Mountain when an out of control snowboarder ran into her knocking her to the ground and dragging her under his body for close to 30 feet.  She was face down in the snow and a parent acted quickly and removed the snow from her face and out of her mouth so she could breathe.   Medical professionals who were skiing at Lutsen jumped in to help out.  Ski patrol transported her via stretcher & sled to the base of the hill where an ambulance arrived to take her to the Grand Marais Emergency Room.   Police were also at the base of the hill taking statements from the friends of Emilia's who were witnesses to the accident.  Emilia was intubated at Grand Marais ER and a helicopter transported her from there to Essentia-St Mary's in Duluth where Emilia was in critical condition for days suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury.  Thankfully Emilia was wearing her helmet and is in recovery at Gillette Children's Hopital in St. Paul.  It is unknown how long her recovery will take and we have added opportunities to provide meals to the family for those close by who want to help.  Please keep Emilia and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
