Friday, May 15th, Elynn was riding her new bike. She was just getting started when the gears locked and the bike stopped-resulting in her handlebar going into her abdomen. She was in a lot of pain and had a bruise/small circle on her stomach from where the handle bars hit. About 30-45 minutes after the accident, she started vomiting and we knew something was wrong. Billye took her to Urgent Care where the examined her and consulted with Children's hospital and decided she needed to be transported by ambulance to ensure she didn't have any major internal injuries-the concern was she might have injured her liver and/or pancreas. Elynn was rushed to Children's hospital where it was determined that her pancreas was split in 2-with 85% of her pancreas experiencing major trauma. Going into emergency surgery, there were 2 options that were being considered, the decision would have to be made by her surgeon once he could see the damage first hand. We are using this site to keep family and friends updated on her progress as we navigate the next few weeks/months.
