As most of you know roughly a month ago our Dad, Elvernon, started having some health problems. He started falling out of bed and while transferring from his wheelchair. This led to many bumps, bruises and wounds which led to an infection and pneumonia. He seemed to have stabilized after those issues for awhile.
Friday the 22nd Betty arrived at Dad’s place for a visit and found him unresponsive and unable to wake him. She immediately pushed his medical alert pendant. It took quit a while to wake him and when he did wake he could not respond or communicate verbally with her. She stayed by his side while she waited for medical help and for the rest of us to make our way to his place.
We decided to have him taken to the U of M Hospital to be seen. Within 24 hours of his arrival in the hospital we all realized we were dealing with a very different situation than we had previously been facing with his health. He stayed in the hospital from the 22nd until the 27th. While there it became apparent that we were in need of nursing home facility. Dad was transferred to Shalom on West 7th in St Paul and entered into hospice care.
