The journey of Ellie all begins here.. at just 20 weeks pregnant I (Abby) developed high blood pressure leading to many check ups to monitor Ellie’s development. While I felt fine, Ellie was measuring small and not getting the nutrients she needed to grow. At this point we were referred to a high risk doctor who told us I would not be allowed to go past 37 weeks… 2 weeks later no progress was made and it was determined Ellie would need to be delivered that same day! Sweet baby Ellie was born at just 36 weeks on June 28th (4lbs 5 oz) & was fully loved from the start!🫶🏻 Ellie has been in the NICU since making it a frustrating, emotional, and tiring few months. Ellie’s older brothers Bryson and Nolan have struggled the most, not being able to comprehend why their new baby sister can’t come home.

As of today (August 15, 2022), we are going on close to 2 months still in the NICU. Working on her continual feed volumes. We have had some tests done to try and narrow down some causes. This morning, Ellie under went a swallow study to ensure the low volume feedings where in fact not being caused by aspirations etc. which she passed with no concerns. 🤞🏼

Ellie has also been sent to have an MRI completed for possible neurological issues. After receiving the results, it was a little unsettling to find out they had found a “cyst” on the lower portion of the brain. In addition, the “waves” in her brain have not fully developed. Ellie has been referred to the University of Iowa Stead family childrens hospital where they will continue to follow up and look into the possible issues/treatments.

We know Ellie is right where she needs to be. She reminds us daily that she is in charge and will decide when she comes home. Until then, we will continue our trips back and forth and take all the snuggles we can get! She is the happiest little baby and loves her sleep the most! We love this little girl more than anything and can’t wait for the day she gets to leave. Thank you to all who reached out, helped with the boys, visited, dropped off meals, and donated gas money. We would appreciate it if you would keep our family in your prayers! 💕💕💕
