Ellen's cancer journey began in the late spring/early summer of 2021. She had been having difficulty breathing and had been trying to get in to see her doctor in Florida, but was told he was still only seeing patients via "tele-visits." She thought it was just her asthma acting up. Ellen decided to travel to New Jersey to their summer home and figured she would take care of her medical visits once she was settled up there. Shortly after arriving in New Jersey, she found out that what was causing her distress was fluid building up in her peritoneal cavity. When they removed the fluid they found the cancer cells. It was determined that she had ovarian cancer and it had spread. Due to her age and the advanced stage of the cancer, surgery was not an option. Ellen started chemo on Friday, September 3, 2021.
