Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Ellen has been diagnosed with a rare blood disease called amyloidosis which involves abnormal proteins that affect the internal organs through the bone marrow. There's no cure and it can ultimately cause organ failure. Back in August, she had been in the hospital with an extremely low hemoglobin so they went down with a scope and found the source of some internal bleeding. They cauterized it thought they found and corrected what was causing her extreme fatigue and weakness but she really had not been feeling any better since then. She went back to the hospital in mid-October and they once again went in with a scope. No internal bleeding this time, but the gastroenterologist noticed some suspicious proteins so he took some out to be biopsied. This biopsy is what lead to the diagnosis of amyloidosis. She is currently trying a remission treatment, with an excellent hematologist and respected oncologist from the Mayo Clinic on her team of physicians overseeing her treatment plan. Our faith tells us to trust in God and believe in miracles, so we continue to pray that her treatment puts her on a path of healing. She is currently working on regaining her strength and starting treatment at a rehab facility. We will continue to post updates as we have them. Thank you all for caring, and offering your love and support.
