Elaine Simon

  Elaine Ruth Simon, 90, of Green Bay, went to heaven with her family by her side on Thursday, May26, 2017.  She was born on February 15, 1927, to Ernest and Anna (Bruard) Fischer.  Elaine was a lifelong resident of Green Bay.  She graduated from Green Bay West High school, Class of 45.  She married Howard Matuszak on June 8, 1946 and shared 46 years of happiness raising seven, pretty good, not so bad children before Howard lost his battle with cancer in 1992.  Later in life she met and fell in love with Philip Simon.  On September 23, 2000, they married.  She was a devoted housewife and mother who enjoyed decorating and remodeling, spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, shopping, camping and celebrating the holidays.  A few of her other true talents included baking, making candy, and creating floral arrangements.  Elaine will be remembered for her resilient strength and sense of humor.  She will be deeply missed by her children, Jim Matuszak, Green Bay, Jerry (Robin) Matuszak, Green Bay, John (Debbie) Matuszak, Merrill, Marles (Elliott) Ring, Pueblo CO, Keith Matuszak, Green Bay, Mark Matuszak, Green Bay, and Ted (Tina) Matuszak, Pulaski, 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; and the Simon family, Green Bay, Anita (Richard) Schoen, Robert (Bonnie) Simon, Mary (Alan) Pischke, and Mark (Debbie) Simon, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Elaine is also survived by her sister, Laverne Clark She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard Matuszak, second husband Philip Simon, and her 5 brothers and 3 sisters and their spouses, Vernon & Alice Fischer, Ernest & Edna Fischer, Dale & Joan Fischer, Kenneth & Janice Fischer, Orland Fischer, Grace & Eugene Schulte, Meryle & Gerald Lamine, Bernice & Frank LeGrady, and brother in-law Lawrence Clark. Elaine was also preceded in death by Jean (Simon) Schumacher. Visitation will be held at Pfontenhauer Funeral home on Monday, May 30th from 4-7pm. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, May 31st at St Bernard’s Church at 11:00 am.    The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff at Aurora Bay Care, Woodside Manor III and Prevea for their care and compassion they’ve provided to Elaine and her family over the last several years.
