Over the last few weeks our father's health has been declining quickly. The end of October he ended up in the hospital with stroke like symptoms...although they said he did not have a stroke. His mobility decreased during that week and he was transferred to a rehab facility for physical, occupational and speech therapy. Late last week his respiratory status decreased and he had developed aspiration pneumonia for the second time in a month. He also contracted the norovirus. He was moved to the hospital. He is having trouble communicating and sleeps most of the time. He is not really interested in eating. We decided that due to his quality of life, he was converted to comfort care only and put on hospice. He will be moved back to the same facility where he was for rehab (Healthcare Resort of Olathe) where he will continue hospice. We will keep you updated as we know more.
