Linda Ray (Echo) Echo’s Site

Hello to all you friends and relations. Most of you will be new to Echo's current condition, so you need to be up to speed.
Soon after we moved to independent living in April, Echo’s hemoglobin plummeted. She went to the ER and was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, which means that her bone marrow isn’t producing proper blood cells. Red cells, white cells and platelets are all low. There’s a treatment, though it’s not a cure; it might give her a few extra months, but after one try she decided that it did not equal quality of life. So we live from day to day with the periodic transfusions: like a vampire she loves her hit of red stuff!
The staff at Villa Ventura seems determined to care for her in place, and they’re wonderful! So life is good, but she’s had a couple of days when she realized that it was time to keep you all in the loop, and I’m definitely ready to be able to write one bulletin instead of a bunch of individual ones. My thumb-writing is improving, but it’s not that good! So please check into this site often and write notes - she’ll love them.
