From breast cancer to colon cancer....

New cancer update below, September 2022.

On June 21st, 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. More specifically, I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), with approx 2mm of invasive ductal carcinoma (estrogen/progesterone positive). Being told you have cancer, no matter the type, stage, or size is very scary. The word "cancer" is a generalized blanket term that covers so many variations that it's tricky to keep your mind from going right to eleven. (That's a Spinal Tap reference) Luckily mine was detected early, and the doctors I've met with all seem very optimistic that I will have a positive outcome. I'm scheduled for a lumpectomy on July 13th, and will have follow-up radiation treatment starting mid-August for 4-6 weeks. I really like the team I have at Park Nicollet & the Frauenshuh Cancer Center at Methodist Hospital, and of course I have Cole by my side (and cats on my side), so I'm keeping a smile on.
