Dustin started having leg pain at the end of January. He went to the doctor and was told it was probably strained. He rested, a week later it seemed to get better. Then his right leg started really hurting. He went back to the doctor and they did a CT scan. They found some kidney stones and had a stent put in. We thought that was it. We couldn’t have been more wrong. I had to take Dustin into the ER in New Ulm and from there he was transferred by ambulance to Abbott. Doctors ran many tests and MRIs. They were thinking infection around the spine. They did spinal surgery to decompress the nerves. They found tumors instead. They took a biopsy and pathology confirmed on March 22nd that Dustin has cancer. We then did a PET scan to find out if it had spread with pathology narrowed down what type of cancer Dustin has. The results from these tests confirmed that Dustin has Burkitt Lymphoma stage 4. He has been transferred to Children’s Hospital of Minnesota to undergo chemotherapy treatments.  He is scheduled for aggressive treatments for six months.
