Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Dad suffered a mild stroke on Friday, July 15, 2022.  Thankfully he was visiting his daughter, Indy, who lives in his neighborhood and she was able to get him to the hospital very quickly.  The doctors determined that Duke was in AFIB and a blood clot traveled to the left side of his brain, affecting his right side, causing expressive aphasia.  His receptive language is better than his expressive language.

Traci flew from AL to NC on Saturday to help Indy and be with Dad, and we were able to bring him home on Sunday!

Every day last week we were able to see improvements!  Physically he is able to take care of himself and his household.  He is able to navigate his phone and iPad, read his texts and emails, and speak pretty well (but does get hung up on words or thoughts he is trying to express).  He is not able to text except for one word responses, and cannot write without assistance.

Dad will start speech therapy and occupational therapy on Monday, July 25.  He will see his primary care physician on Tuesday, July 26.

Please text, call or FaceTime dad!  He would love to hear from you!

We will do our best to keep you posted on his improvements.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!
