In 2017 Duane shared the following message: On June 22nd I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer. July 3rd we sat with the Univ of Chicago for a second opinion. We left with reassurance that our local oncologist has us on the best path to try and kick its ass. Though it was completely difficult to grasp this, I'm ready to give it all I've got to fight this awful disease. All I ask of my friends is to please support me, stand by me, cheer me on. No need to say sorry, or suggest treatment options because "We Got This". These past 2 weeks I can't put into words the amazing support/strength of my wonderful wife. I Love You Julia!! We Got This!  December 2019 Update : For the past 30 months, Duane has endured each new chemo combo with courage, a loving spirit and unflappable optimism.  With treatment options having run their course and current protocols moderately working (at best) Duane has made the brave decision to stop treatment.  As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision to make. We ask you to respect this decision and refrain from offering up any of the myriads of alternative treatments (we know it's tempting but please, and thank you).   It is our goal to keep Duane home.  Soon Julia will be home from work to assist the puppy nurses, Roxy and Loki, in caring for Duane.  When necessary we will call in Hospice for additional support.  We will keep folks apprised of changes and updates here. Meanwhile, we are fortunate to have been surrounded by loving support of family and friends since day 1. We are deeply grateful for your presence.
